And Just Like That: Sex And The City Star Cynthia Nixon Opens Up On Missing Samantha

Kim Cattrall opted not to return to the reboot.

As much as we’ve been enjoying/traumatised by And Just Like That, there has been a big hole in our hearts (and no, it’s not Big’s sudden death and departure from the franchise).

Yep, Samantha Jones is no longer part of the friendship quartet, with Kim Cattrall choosing to bow out of Sex and the City and its follow-ups due to a well-documented feud with Sarah Jessica Parker.

To explain her absence in the series, And Just Like That explains that Samantha had fallen out with Carrie after the latter fired her as her publicist. Samantha is now living in England, having landed a new job.

While fans have been divided about the storyline, Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda in the series, believes the sub-plot was the right way to handle the situation.

“I really love it, I think it’s great – the way we address it, head on,” Nixon told Elle magazine.

“We reveal that there are layers to it. There’s what you tell casual acquaintances is the situation, and then when you’re left alone and discuss it amongst yourselves, we get to a deeper level of sadness and confusion about it.”

Nixon continued that the cast still love Samantha as a character.

“We love this character, and we want to show great respect for her.”

It was previously suggested that the cast are hoping Cattrall has a change of heart in regards to her feud.

A source told the Daily Mail: “Carrie is the one who has the tough time without Samantha and by the end of And Just Like That, you'll see Carrie extend the olive branch and try and rekindle the friendship.

“We have high hopes that by the time we begin filming the second season, Kim will have joined the show and Samantha Jones can make a triumphant return to the Big Apple.

“We want Kim back. She was missed on set. We all understand why she feels the way she does. We get it. We just want her to come back for future seasons.”

However, Cattrall’s Twitter likes tell quite a different story…
