What is Impeachment: American Crime Story about?
The series will explore the impeachment of 49-year-old President Bill Clinton in December 1998 after his sexual affair with 22-year-old White House intern Monica Lewinsky became public, which he famously denied, as well as a separate sexual misconduct lawsuit filed by Paula Jones.
Lewinsky revealed to her confidant Linda Tripp that she had sexual relations with Clinton nine times in the West Wing between 1995 and 1997. Unbeknownst to her, Tripp had recorded their phone conversations.
Like previous American Crime Story seasons, Impeachment is based on a book. A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President by Jeffrey Toobin.
Who is starring in Impeachment?
Sarah Paulson, who has starred in several Ryan Murphy series including American Horror Story and Netflix’s Ratched plays lawyer Linda Tripp who recorded the confidential phone conversations. The scandalous tapes included all the details of her trysts with the president.
Booksmart actor Beanie Feldstein stars as Lewinsky. Clive Owen will play president Clinton and Edie Falco will take on the role of his wife and future presenting candidate Hillary Clinton.

Yes - the former White House intern is now a producer. She explained her role to Vanity Fair in a 2019 interview. Murphy began developing the show back in 2017 but it was initially put on hold in 2018 because he felt he needed Lewinsky’s involvement to bring the show to fruition.
Lewinsky told Vanity Fair about her reasons for joining the series: “I was hesitant, and truthfully more than a little scared to sign on. But after a lengthy dinner meeting with Ryan, I came to understand even more clearly how dedicated he is to giving a voice to the marginalized in all of his brilliant work. I’m privileged to work with him and the other talented people on the team, and I’m privileged to have this opportunity.”
