Greggs have confirmed that its famous Festive Bake is returning in just two weeks' time.

We may still have quite a while to go until we're in full festive mode (at this point we're yet to have seen a socially-distanced Halloween) but with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, goodness knows we all need something to look forward to.

The bakery chain set our tummies rumbling on Instagram today when they posted a picture of the delectable Festive Bake, with its crunchy golden crust encasing its delicious festive filling.

Hungry customers could get their hands on the bake, which features the rich, Christmassy flavours of chicken breast, sage and onion stuffing and sweetcure bacon all soaked in a sage and cranberry sauce and encased in puff pastry, for just £1.50 last year.

With the bakery chain saying there's just two weeks to go until the Festive Bake is released, we can expect the pastry to be hitting stores just in time for Bonfire Night - Thursday 5th November.

Fans were keen to get their hands on the Festive Bake sooner than its scheduled release date, with one customer writing: "This is the only thing left that can save 2020."

Another wrote: "Top of my Christmas wishlist."

Several other Greggs enthusiasts were calling for the brand to do a vegan version of the Festive Bake, just a year after the bakery released its iconic (and hotly debated) vegan sausage roll.

Greggs previously teased the release of the Festive Bake back in August. A spokesperson for the brand said: "2020 has been strange, to say the least. We're trying to bring back a little taste of normal, one bake at a time. After all, what's more normal than your favourite Greggs order?

"Our much anticipated Festive Bake is back on the menu in November, so aside from all the uncertainty we're pleased our customers can have a little something they look forward to."

In other festive food news, Malteasers has announced they will introduce orange-flavour chocolate bunnies in time for Easter next year.

Galaxy have also launched zesty orange-flavoured chocolate truffles, available to purchase in Tesco's now.
