People Are Horrified By Woman's 'British Tapas'

If you had one of these, frankly, you haven’t lived.

We Brits can be proud of a number of things - Love Island, Harry Potter, Marcus Rashford...

One thing that we do that leaves a lot to be desired? Our cuisine. We have absolutely nothing on our European cousins, that can boast pain au chocolats, paella and pasta dishes.

But that often doesn't stop us trying to give something a good go, with one woman deciding to cook 'British Tapas' for her and her pals - otherwise known as a 'picky tea'.

Check out the dinner here:

The belly-busting feast, that cost Natalie just £29.30, contained frozen favourites chicken dippers, smiley faces and turkey twizzlers.

Footage shared on TikTok shows people tipping three bags of Doritos onto the table and drizzling it with sauce before topping it with grated cheese.

Other food up for grabs in this beige buffet of carb goodness included curly fries, waffles and a side of spaghetti and sausages, snapped up from Iceland.

Explaining her take on the traditional Spanish snack, Natalie, from Sunderland, explained: "This shows you can have fun at home, you don't have to go to Spain.

"Obviously Spain is on the amber list at the moment and that's one of the main holiday destinations for people in this country.

We've all tried to be a bit more creative about what we're doing indoors or in our gardens to have more fun at home.

"We wanted to show a way you can still enjoy yourself on a budget.

"Sometimes it's a bit out-the-box but it's a laugh."

Currently, Spain is on the UK government's 'amber list' of traveling, which means numerous pricey tests need to be taken to prove you don't have coronavirus.

Natalie's fairly low cost alternative to a holiday in Spain is certainly kinder on your bank balance, but she admits some snobby folk have looked down on her for serving it up.

"The 'British tapas' definitely rivals a Spanish tapas because it reminds me of my childhood," she said. "However, I've heard it called 'council estate' tapas.

"I would potentially host another 'British Tapas' night for guests again, but I would need another oven, I've only got one oven and it was like a production line."
