One thing we have gained from the last 12 months in lockdown is a deep, unwavering love of banana bread - perhaps the simplest and most delicious bake around.

But what do you do with the leftovers you're inevitably going to have after throwing together your 2,000th loaf?!

Well, people have been getting savvy in the kitchen, creating banana bread French toast out of their leftover loaves - and we're not going to lie, it looks delicious.

Like what you see? Well, you can check out a ridiculously simple recipe below so you can try it out for yourself. You're welcome.

Banana Bread French Toast

Soft, caramelised and topped with sweet bananas, the banana bread french toast from Insta foodie bloggers, @wearethefoodwhores is not to be trifled with.

It takes just 3 minutes to make and 10 minutes to prep.

And your results will look like this... drool.

2 slices of banana bread

1 egg

1/4 cup milk

1 tbsp caster sugar

1/4 tsp salt

2 tbsp unsalted butter

1/2 banana

1 tbsp unsalted butter

Whisk the egg, sugar, salt, cinnamon and milk in a bowl

Prepare your frying pan or skillet on a medium-low heat and melt 1 tsp of butter

While butter is melting soak the banana brad slices in the egg mixture, turn over after 30 seconds and soak on the other side for another 30 seconds

Once the butter is melted add the slices to the pan and cook for about 3 or 4 minutes. Once it looks all golden brown flip each slice carefully and continue cooking the other side another 3 or so minutes

Take out the bread slices and in the same pan add 1 tsp butter, 1 tsp of sugar and some chopped banana

Fry until they are all nice and caramelised

Drizzle with maple syrup & icing sugar and enjoy!
