It's grey, it's cold, we're in lockdown - let's face it, we're all in dire need of a pick-me-up.

So we can thank McDonald's for bringing a smile to our faces and forcing us out of our bleak Monday mood as they have announced they are giving away thousands of cheeseburgers for free.

That's right, you can save yourself 99p to get your hands on this cheesy, meaty treat if you just follow a few simple rules.

To claim your free burger, you need to download the McDonald's app on your phone and order your cheeseburger for collection or drive-thru.

It is essential you place your order through the McDonald's app otherwise your cheesy freebie will not be valid.

Maccies fans this is your moment. (

The offer is only available for brand new users of the McDonald's app - so once you've downloaded it, click on the My Deals section and there you should see a voucher for a free cheeseburger. Result!

But you don't have long to grab your free burger, with the offer closing on Sunday 22nd November - so get your skates on!

While the vast majority of McDonald's stores will honour the offer, 28 stores across the country have opted out of the deal.

Stores that are not participating include:

McDonald's will not be operating its usual sit-down service during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has seen all non-essential stores in England closed in a bid to curb the spread.

However, McDonald's is still available for collection, take-away and drive-thru for the time being.

In other Maccies news, the fast-food chain has announced its brand new Christmas menu, which sees a number of new items available to try.

As well as a brand new Celebrations McFlurry, fans can also get their hands on the Double Big Mac, the Jerk Chicken Sandwich - and a salted caramel latte.

Guess we'll be having quite a few lunches at McDonald's....
