People Are Queuing For Miles As McDonald’s Drive-Thrus Re-Open

Get. Me. My. Nugs.

When we told you about McDonald's re-opening a selection of its drive-thrus, we sensed there would be pandemonium.

But little did we know just how excited the UK would get to have McNuggets and Big Macs back in their lives.

Yep, yesterday 39 sites re-opened in England and six in Dublin - and outside many of the branches there were queues of cars around the block.

BBC report that people were so desperate for French fries that they had to sit through hour long queues in London, Essex and Watford.

Plus, The Peterborough Telegraph even said that police were even called to one branch to "assist with the flow of traffic in the area". Jeeeez.

It comes almost eight weeks after 1,270 McDonald's branches closed across the country, and people had to go without their Happy Meals.

Now, some are back up and running on Uber Eats, and they are gradually starting to re-open other drive-thru branches in adherence to social distancing measures, to ensure the public can still get their fix.

Maccies plans to open all of its drive-thru branches by June.

A statement from McDonald's said: "With restaurant teams adjusting to new procedures to enable safe working and social distancing, things may take a little longer - and high demand is anticipated.

"McDonald's and its franchisees are working closely with local authorities and the police, and may determine that it is necessary to close Drive Thru lanes if queues cause disruption at busier sites or put employees or customers at risk."

The drive-thrus currently in operation are running from 11am until 10pm, and there will be a range of new safety measures in place as well as a limited menu and a capped spend of £25.
