First came the cronut, then came the candyfloss grapes - but the latest food hybrid to shake up summer may just be the tastiest yet.
M&S has just announced the launch of its orange candy melon, and please forgive us while we dash to M&S to stock up.
Announcing the news this week, the food giant said: "A limited edition and only available until early September, this unique Spanish grown melon is ideal on its own, in a fruit salad or with ice-cream and has a flavour profile which is aromatic and as the name would suggest - sweet like candy.
"We pride ourselves on providing great quality, diverse and unusual fresh produce varieties which you don't often see in the supermarket and this variety of sweet melon is no different.

The candy-hued fruit is just £3 and is available to buy in store now with the retailer describing it as 'bursting with flavour".
The melon has already garnered quite the fan base online, with Kev's Snack Reviews branding it "refreshing and tasty".
He wrote: "It's basically a Honeydew melon but with a darker orange colour, and is smaller in size. The taste is very different from a Honeydew. I do love Honeydews, they're so sweet and satisfying, but it's nice to have something a bit less sweet now and then.

"This one has a more muted [sweetness] and a slight tartness, more flavour than a Honeydew and less empahsis on its sweetness."
Kev concluded: "It's hard to describe really, but it's a very refreshing and tasty melon!"
M&S is no stranger to stocking fruit hybrids, earlier this year it launched the limelon (lime/ melon cross-mix), followed by the Insta-worth rainbow pepper.

In 2018 it brought out candy floss, mango, strawberry and tutti frutti-flavoured grapes, and soon after Tesco began selling Jaffa's seedless grapes in candy floss, tropical and strawberry flavours.
