Everyone's Making Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Boards

The sugary sweet new trend you need to try over Christmas...

Let's face it - the weather is miserable, the nights are long, and Christmas is still six weeks away.

As temperatures plunge to frosty lows, our usual cold weather companion is a steaming hot mug of hot chocolate, with a handful of marshmallows sprinkled on top and smothered in a big whippy peak of cream.

But it seems that you can actually improve on perfection.

A number of foodies and Instagrammers are taking the humble hot choc and taking it to the next level - and serving them on charcuterie boards.

Instead of the usual charcuterie staples like cured meats, cheeses and crackers, imagine a board loaded with cocoa delights - cookies, chocolate sprinkles, candy canes, hot chocolate sauce.

It's a deliciously decadent way to enjoy winter's flagship drink, and is perfect for sharing with your loved one as you cuddle up against the cold winter's nights (or as a naughty treat all for your own).

If you're looking for inspiration, we've rounded up some of the best boards of the bunch.

If you love the soft, fluffy texture of marshmallow, this effort from @Everyday_Tables is particularly impressive - with a scattering of marshmallows, the board also boasts mini chocolate brownie pieces, chocolate chunks, sprinkles, whipped cream and dips.

For those who like richness of chocolate should look towards @Cocoatasting4you - with crunchy chocolate pieces, cocoa powder, chocolate buttons, Maltesers and thick cream topping.

Meanwhile, @TamingTwins colourful offering is perfect to share with someone you love - featuring mini-gingerbread men,, pink and white heart-shaped marshmallows, bitesize chunks of fudge, teeny-tiny milk and white chocolate chips - as well as strong cinnamon sticks and chocolate flakes.

In other festive food news, Lidl has announced they're releasing a brand new range of mince pies, with sweet mincemeat flavoured with salted caramel, black forest cherries - and even Biscoff pieces.

It's beginning to look and taste a lot like Christmas...
