Calling all McMuffin fans: you can now enjoy sleeping in and breakfast at McDonald's, as the fast food giant is extending its breakfast hours in a new trial.

PA

Announcing the news in a statement on Wednesday, the chain confirmed that seven McDonald's restaurants in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight are trialling extending their breakfast hours to 11am rather than the usual 10.30am.

The trial will run for six weeks to see the response, and if the local residents are anything like us, they'll be rocking up for their hungover McMuffins at about 10.58am, proving that we very much do need the breakfast hours to be extended.

If the trial is a success, the later breakfast times could be rolled out across the UK, which will bring joy to the millions of us who adore a lie in.

According to McDonald's, the restaurants that are currently undergoing the trial are:

  • Commercial Road, Portsmouth
  • Isle of Wight
  • Cosham, Portsmouth
  • IoW - Brading Road
  • Ocean Retail Park, Portsmouth
  • Fratton Park, Portsmouth
  • North Harbour, Portsmouth

McDonald's franchisee Grant Copper, who owns and operates the restaurants trialling extended breakfast service in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, says: "I'm thrilled to be bringing this service to my customers, and look forward to hearing their feedback."

A Big Mac with Bacon has now also been added to the menu.

If breakfast isn't your thing or you live nowhere near the restaurants that are currently trialling the extension, this isn't the only McDonald's news to get excited by.

The chain has recently announced that it is adding four new burgers to its menu in time for summer, inspired by food from a variety of American states.

You can pick from an Alabama chicken burger, a Mississippi stack, a Kansas City stack and a Nashville chicken burger.

As well as these new burgers, delicious options from last year, including the New York stack and the South Carolina stack, will be returning this summer too.

The chain also recently allowed customers to add bacon to the iconic Big Mac, and for all of us with a sweet tooth, this year has also treated us to the return of the Twix McFlurry.

Let's hope the trial goes well and we can all enjoy a McMuffin later in the day than ever before...
