Asda Launches New Sid The Sausage Dog Cake

Colin, you may have competition.
While we've always reached for a Colin the Caterpillar cake to celebrate birthdays, ASDA has just launched its own version of the animal-themed celebration cake.
Meet Sid the Sausage Dog.
Feeding up to 20 people, the foot-long chocolatey creation is made up of delicious chocolate sponge rolled with buttercream and coated with chocolate shavings. Mmm!
Announcing the news alongside an image of Sid, ASDA wrote on Instagram: "We'd like to introduce Sid the Sausage Dog. Guaranteed to create the woof-factor for any special celebration, Sid is a whole foot long feeding up to 20 people.
"Sid consists of a soft chocolate sponge, rolled with chocolate buttercream. For the final flourish, he is coated with milk chocolate and edible decorations, creating a novelty centrepiece for only £12! Find him in store and online from Monday."
Becky Price, ASDA's product development manager for cakes, said of the shelf's newest addition: "We know our customers love a novelty cake that injects plenty of fun into special celebrations at an affordable price!
"We've seen a rising demand from our customers for sausage dog-themed products, so Sid is a great addition to our celebration cake range and is sure to become one popular pooch!"
Sid follows ASDA's festive Roddy The Reindeer cake released in time for Christmas last year. Roddy was complete with chocolate sponge, chocolate frosting and an iced smiling face.
Earlier this year, Tesco introduced their celebration cake offering, too: Lucky the Llama.
The delectable looking sweet treat had mouths watering with its two layers of Victorian sponge sandwiching a sumptuous filling of buttercream and raspberry jam.
The hand-decorated cake is covered in white icing while coloured icing showcases the Llama's mouth, eyes, ears and nose.
Sid is available in ASDA from Monday 13th July for £12.
