A mother-of-two has left social media users astounded by the incredible Grinch costumes she made for her kids for only £4.99.
Cassie Middleton shared a charming photo of her daughter Amelia, six, dressed as Cindy Lou Who and son Joshua, five, as The Grinch on Facebook, leaving fellow parents stunned by her thrifty craftsmanship.
Alongside the photo, the mum from South Derbyshire explained how she managed to achieve the incredible dress-up feat for less than a fiver.
The 31-year-old shared in Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK's group: "Grinch dress up costumes are sooo expensive to buy, but the kids love the Grinch, so I made my own, using an old santa dress up top, a green feather boa, and a pair of green tights!
"Cindy lous cape was only £4.99 off ebay and the rest we already had! Her hair is kept up by half a plastic bottle and a ton of hairspray, garden wire was used to plait.
She later edited her post after she was flooded with comments praising her ingenuity and added: "Edit, the grinch isn't really unhappy, he just plays a really good Grinch, he is so extra... I don't know where he gets it from (sic).
"Wow!! Thank you so much for all the lovely comments, so sweet".
Speaking to Tyla, Cassie explained that her children had dressed up as the iconic book and film characters for her friend's Marie Curie Christmas fundraising event, where there was a prize for the best dressed.
Her daughter's Cindy Lou costume cost just £4.99 and was made from a dress up cape she purchased off eBay. Keeping costs low, she explained she had everything else for the costume.
Cassie then sculpted the six-year-old's hair in place with the help of half a plastic water bottle, hair spray and garden wire.
"I sectioned her hair from the ears across, split the bottom half into two and plaited it using garden wire to give it a flexible bend," she told us.
"I cut in half a 500ml water bottle, placed it on top of her head, back combed all the hair around it and then brushed it upwards and used a bobble to tie around the bottle top.
Continuing: "I used my spiral curlers to add some curls and a red ribbon. I attached the plaits to the side of her hair using hair grips and then used a lot of hair spray to keep it in place."
When it came to Joshua's transformation into the grump with a mean streak, Cassie said: "I don't know how much I originally paid for the Santa top, but it was from ASDA.
"I had the feather boa, which was £2, face paint, £3, and colour spray, £1.99, already."
And if you're wondering if they were crowned Best Dressed at the charity event? They did - see The Grinch didn't steal Christmas after all.
