Sustainability is at the forefront of everyone's minds right now, and people are finally waking up to the fact that single-use plastics are polluting the planet.

Each year, 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced and 40 per cent of that is single-us. Plus, more than five trillion pieces of plastic are thought to be in the world's oceans.

But while the thought of banishing plastic entirely from can feel overwhelming (McDonald's strawgate is a perfect example of that), there's now a plethora of eco-friendly products to make the process easier, from stylish containers to water bottles and reusable coffee cups.

Luckily, we've scouted out some of the best eco-friendly homeware on the market to help you cut back on your single-use plastic consumption.

Bamboo is a great alternative to plastic, and Cath Kidston has a range of options in cute floral patterns which have become synonymous with the brand.

The plant pots bamboo lunch box is priced at £10 and will be perfect for work lunches. It's is made from environmentally-friendly, biodegradable bamboo, with a handy rubber band to prevent leakage.

The British brand also sells bamboo containers to store food, which comes with two pieces together at £15 a pop. These aren't available online but can be found in-store.

Another more sustainable alternative to a usual plastic lunchbox is a stainless steel version. The Elephant Box is priced at £22.50, and while it might seem expensive for just a lunchbox, just think of all the money you'll save by bringing your own meals to work.

The Elephant Box is built to last and there's no risk of it cracking like plastic. It's ideal for a sandwich, salads or snacks, and has roll clips for extra security. There's different size options, too (depending on how hungry you get at lunchtime!)

Or, you might want to rid yourself of clumsy boxes, and opt for a stylish sandwich bag instead, that's sure to bring some primary school nostalgia.

And Keep sells these washable paper sandwich bags, made from 100 per cent natural fibres. They are priced at £11.95 each and are the perfect size for a sandwich to be kept safe inside until lunchtime.

If you find yourself always picking up a plastic bottle of water from your local supermarket to quench your thirst, owning a reusable glass water bottle will do the environment - and your bank balance - a favour.

Primark has some great options to choose from, perfect for stashing in your bag when you're out and about to ensure you stay hydrated.

The high street retailer's options are super affordable at £4.50, come in an array of grip colours and have a practical handle.

But if you want a different option to glass, then a stainless steel bottle is a good choice. Plus, you can use it for both hot and cold beverages, making it ultra practical and better for the environment.

There's loads of styles on offer, but these bottles from Wilko are a great option. And at just £5, they won't break the bank.

Drinks are kept hot for up to eight hours and kept cool for up to 12 hours, and there's a number of different colour options including matte grey, marble and flamingo. Our favourite? Rose gold by far.

Wilko says the bottles are "great for the gym, outdoor trekking, on-site work, college or commuting".

If you want to splash out, you could go one for one of Chilly's stainless steel bottles (prices start at £25).

And Global WakeCup sells a whole bunch of eco-friendly products, including these glass water bottles, which are made from sustainably sourced bamboo, and use zero plastic in their design.

The bottles are priced at £18 from Not On The High Street, and you can also personalise them with your own name.

Over 2.5 billion coffee cups are used and thrown away each year in the UK, which is enough to stretch around the world five and a half times. And seeing as only one in every 400 (0.25 per cent) are recycled, it's time to change to a sustainable version.

Loads of coffee chains - including Pret, Starbucks and Costa - also knock a few pence off when you use your own cup, doing your purse strings another favour too.

We love these stylish glass reusable cups - the cork edition - from sustainable brand, Keep Cup, made from blown tempered glass.

You can choose the colour of lid and there's three different size options, so you can get as much caffeine as you need. Prices start at £11 to £22 depending on size - you can view Keep Cup's full cork collection here.

Primark is also selling similar versions for a cheaper alternative, although there's less colour options.

These are priced between £5 and £8, also in three different sizes.

Affordable high street hero Wilko is selling affordable bamboo travel mugs too, and these are just £3 each in-store and online.

Coming in six bright and beautiful different patterns, the cups are made from the environmentally-friendly material complete with screw-on lid to prevent leaks. There is also a bold grip to hold onto, which matches the lid.

Companies are finally dropping plastic straws in favour of paper ones, but if you want something which you can use time and time again, a metal version might be a better option. Metal straws can be just kept in your handbag, and you can whip one out whenever confronted with a beverage.

Urban Outfitters has lots of options, including a multi-colour pack of gold, rose gold, iridescent and silver for £9, coming with a pipe cleaner.

There's also a pack of four simple gold straws, which also come with a pipe cleaner, for the same price.

But if you don't fancy a metal straw, then Amazon is selling reusable silicone straws in packs of six in an array of rainbow colours.

The silicone straws also come with a pipe cleaner (along with a £5.99) price tag, and have plenty of five star reviews from shoppers.

While switching to eco-friendly containers, straws, and travel mugs might feel like a drop in the ocean in our attempts to stop the climate emergency, making these little changes will all add up and make a difference. Remember, there's no planet 'B'...
