We've long been taught to 'never judge a book by it's a cover', and that phrase has never applied more to this unique property in Wales, which was recently crowned one of the UK's most gorgeous properties.

The three-bed semi-detached home in Penarth, Wales was restored by interior designer Miffy Shaw and her builder husband Gareth, who caught the eye of BBC One property show, Best House In Town which led to their property becoming the winner of the Cardiff heat.

"I don't know why I've won to be honest, I just do what I do, but I'm really proud and thankful," she said. "People have said they think I've won because my house is unique but that's quite a weird thing to hear because surely everybody's house is unique."

Miffy's house is visually inspiring with funky finishes that don't skip on style as well as being functional.

Take for instance the couple's dining room, the space is painted in a dramatic navy that is complemented with a statement wooden table and chairs while plates in various patterns and colours offset the dark colour palette.

Taking inspiration from nature, 39-year-old Miffy has brought harmony to her eclectic home, especially in her cosy dining room with a mix of textures; from wool to wicker.

The interior designer has plenty of moments in the house that show exactly why it was voted the best house in Cardiff; one of those is the photo display in the hallway and up the stairs.

Although at first glance, the organisation may seem random but each item's spot has been carefully considered.

Even though the frames are different styles and sizes, they are all curated under the banner of gold, black and wood, so giving the display a subtle continuity.

And while each room has its own personality, the couple have thought about bringing some continuity to the home by trying to use the same flooring throughout the property.

One aspect of Miffy's house that many homeowners may be a little nervous to copy is the use of dark colours, which has created atmosphere to the master bedroom.

The stormy, dark grey is used continuously throughout the room and creates a strong contrasting backdrop for the collection of metallic mirrors, gold leaf design light fitting and warm wood furniture.

The pair have perfectly mixed industrial materials with other soften textures. Industrial light fittings, scaffolding, metal and exposed brick wall are all softened by Miffy's introduction of soft textures and tactile furnishings.

Wool, wood, china, glass, house plants and flowers all add to the softening accessories and furnishings and ensure this home continually looks warm, inviting and comfortable.

From the stunning photography, its clear to see why it's one of the UK's most Instagrammable homes.Featured Image Credit: WalesOnline/Rob Browne
