Social media has long been a source for interior inspiration - but it's usually expensive influence can (and often does) leave us out of pocket.

However, one DIY enthusiast has left Facebook users in awe after she transformed her staircase for only £40.

Super-savvy Emma Jane was flooded with nearly 2,000 compliments after she posted images of her handiwork on the official DIY On A Budget Facebook group yesterday (Sunday, 22nd October).

Speaking to Tyla, the interior enthusiast told us how she transformed the space with the help of woodland-inspired wallpaper and 14 pieces of glittering grey carpet, which cost her £30 off eBay.

Sharing the steps involved in remodelling the stair, she said: "I cut all the paper before I applied it to the stairs which I found easier, it was easy matching it up to be honest.

"I sanded my steps, undercoated them and then used satinwood. I finished it off by using Mod Podge over the paper on the steps to keep it safe from the kids.

"I would say it cost me no more than £40 - the wallpaper was off eBay along with the satinwood."

And while the process was incredibly cost-effective, Emma-Jane, who works as a cleaner at her children's school, explained that it was no mean task as it took her six weeks to complete the hard yards but still has a few finishing touches to add.

Undertaking the feat during the school holidays, she continued: "It took me the six weeks holidays to do though as I didn't have work.

The school cleaner said that she complete the staircase during the school holidays.

"It's not finished yet as we are waiting for some fallen tree branches to dry out to become the handrail.

"I also need to add the finishing touches of photos to the walls," she added.

Well, Emma-Jane truly proved you can get the luxury look for less.
