While 2018 was the year of umpteen-step Korean-inspired beauty - 2019 is all about beauty minimalism.

And this French-pharmacy skincare trifecta of face and body cleanser, makeup remover and skin-softening bath soak is a multitasking godsend - and it's on shelves from Wednesday.

So what is it? Collosol Eau De Lait (meaning 'milky water') does exactly what it was on the tin. A unique blend of half-milk and half water, it's been used by savvy French skincare aficionados for over 60 years.

Originally created by a French pharmacist in the 1950's for actresses who wanted something to gently cleanse their skin post-performance, Collosol Eau De Lait, £9.50 for 100ml, has been a favourite of Parisians ever since and passed down through generations as a way to gently cleanse and soften skin, minus irritation.

Inspired by ancient beauty rituals (Cleopatra knew good skincare - just remove the snake from the equation), the emulsifying no-rinse formula is gentle and soothing enough to bathe in to soften skin, effectively remove makeup and dirt from your day, and cleanse your body from head to toe without stripping skin of its natural, protective oils.

Today it's still a favourite of leading ladies including Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton - and Karl Lagerfeld reportedly pours it into his bathtub before a soak.

"My bathtub is very big, so I use a full bottle of Collosol every day, the maids pour it in crystal bottles so I don't have the plastic out." Same, babe.

The good news is that now you can bathe like Karl without the Eurostar fare and lugging back a jam-packed, heavy suitcase.
