Royal Mint Selling New Peter Rabbit 50p Coins 'Worth Up To £840'

A new Peter Rabbit 50p coin is launching on the Royal Mint tomorrow, and it could be worth up to an eye-watering £840.

Coin collectors can get their hands on the new design, which depicts Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit standing upright while wearing his trademark blue jacket and holding his iconic red handkerchief.

It was previously rumoured the coin would feature Peter Rabbit being chased by gardener Mr McGregor but sadly this wasn't true.

Unfortunately for coin lovers, you won't find the new Peter Rabbit falling into your change, as it isn't being released into circulation.

Instead, fans of the special edition coin can purchase from the Royal Mint website for various different prices.

The cheapest 'brilliantly uncirculated' coin will cost just £10 as there is said to be an unlimited supply of this version of the coin.

Next is the 'silver proof' version of the Peter Rabbit coin, which will set coin lovers back £65. There will be 30,000 of these coloured coins available to buy.

Finally, dedicated collectors might want to splash out on a 'gold proof' coin, which will cost an eye-watering £795. There will be just 500 of these available to buy.

The coins, which have all been designed by Emma Noble, feature Peter Rabbit, who was created by children's author Beatrix Potter.

Other characters from Potter's fantasy world have been released on 50p coins by the Royal Mint since 2016.

Unlike the latest Peter Rabbit coins, some have simply been released into circulation for anyone to find.

However, previous iterations of the Peter Rabbit 50p coins have sold on eBay for as much as £840, which is a whopping 1,650 per cent more than its face value - and it's predicted the same could happen again with the latest version.

Royal Mint has declined to confirm or deny whether more Beatrix Potter coins will be released this year.
