It's the news we've all been waiting so long for... the next series of Love Island will start in June.

According to reports, ITV has confirmed the long awaited summer series will begin at the end of June, but will still run for its usual eight weeks.

The show usually begins at the start of June, with 2019's summer series kicking off on the 3rd, but due to Covid restrictions, it's believed it has been pushed back by three weeks.

A source told the Mail Online: "Crew members are scheduled to fly out to Majorca on June 20 - with the series expected to launch a week later.

"The delayed launch date will not have an impact on the length of the series, with the show still running for a duration of eight weeks.

"Winter Love Island on the other hand has been 'indefinitely postponed' as bosses put all their energy until the summer series."

It's also reported that ITV have Jersey on standby, just in case restrictions mean flying the Love Island cast and crew over to Majorca isn't possible.

But so far, it's believed Love Island bosses are going ahead in signing up contestants, who are all expected to be flown out at the same time so they can be tested and quarantined before arriving in the villa.

Meanwhile, it's reported the winter series - which aired for the first time in January last year, just before the pandemic hit - has been axed so the team can focus on the summer version instead.

ITV first confirmed the show would be returning this year back in March. In a statement, ITV's director of television Kevin Lygo said: "There's so much to look forward to on ITV this spring and into summer, with the Euros and the return of Love Island, but much more besides."
