A new trailer for The Haunting Of Sharon Tate starring Hilary Duff as the actress and model has been released, and it is chilling viewers to the core.

The movie, produced by Saban Films, is based on the true story of Sharon Tate who was murdered along with three of her closest friends on the orders of notorious Charles Manson by his followers in a brutal attack in 1969.

Lizzie McGuire alum Hilary was cast in the new production as Sharon, who was heavily pregnant at the time of her murder in Los Angeles. Hilary can be seen cradling a pregnant stomach as she is terrorised by the Manson family.

The horror film will be shown through Sharon's perspective, and will cover the deaths of those murdered along with her - Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski and Abigail Folger on August 8th 1969.

Four members of the Manson family entered the home of the married actress while her husband, filmmaker Roman Polanski, was away in Europe.

"This person, these people - they're a threat to my safety and to the safety of my baby," Tate cries in the two and a half minute-long trailer which was released earlier this week.

Infamous crime scene message 'HELTER SKELTER' can be seen scribbled on the walls in Sharon's home in Benedict Canyon.

Mean Girls' Jonathan Bennett has been cast as Tate's friend Jay, Lydia Hearst as Abigail and Pawel Szajda as Wojciech.

The plot has reportedly been inspired by an actual quote from Sharon taken from an interview published a year before she was horrifically killed. In the interview, the model revealed she had a nightmare in which she saw a stranger in her home, who attacked them.
