24 Hours In A&E Nurse Suffers Painful Facial Burns After Patient Throws Boiling Water On Her

There's no denying that working in an A&E department one of the hardest jobs around - both physically and mentally - and we are often given an insight into their incredible work on 24 Hours In A&E.

And the shocking moments that 25-year-old Christie was rushed to St George's hospital in South West London will be aired on the Channel 4 docu-series on Wednesday evening, after one of her patients attacked her by throwing boiling water over her.

Christie suffered severe burns, but the hospital staff were able to help reduce her pain by giving her painkillers and morphine.They also helped restrict air movement over the burns which can also make the pain even worse.

The incident is enough to put anyone off a career in medicine, but Christie just sees it as part of her job - shockingly, she's been attacked by patients plenty of times before.

Despite Christie's enthusiasm for her line of work, her boyfriend, Nathan, wants her to quit and get an office job instead. He tells the cameras that he's always worried for her safety whenever she heads to work at the psychiatric ward.

When he arrives at the hospital, Nathan is visibly shocked and upset by his girlfriend's injuries, and the hospital staff need to comfort him to calm him down.

Despite her daughter's burns and her own concerns, Christie's mama still wants her to pursue the career she's always wanted to do. She tells the 24 Hours In A&E cameras that 'love is letting them do what they want to do'.

Christie was transferred to another hospital in London, Chelsea and Westminster burns unit, after her injuries worsened, but she is already back at work, although she tell viewers that her confidence has definitely been knocked.

24 hours in A&E airs on Channel 4 on Wednesday at 9pm
