First it was Idris Elba. Just last month it was Harry Styles. Well, we now have the real answer. Lashana Lynch, one of the stars of the long delayed James Bond film No Time To Die, has confirmed her character is replacing Daniel Craig's James Bond as 007.

The actress plays MI6 agent Nomi and addressed the speculation surrounding her character earlier this year that suggested she would take up the iconic mantle. We are here for it!

Lashana spilt more details about her role in a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, and addressed the online criticism she faced following the announcement earlier this year.

"I am one Black woman - if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse," she said.

"I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I'm a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary," she added.

No Time To Die was originally scheduled to come out in April 2020. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the film was delayed until November 2020. But as England goes into another national lockdown, as do several other countries around Europe and cases continue to rise, the film has been pushed back once again.

The 25th Bond film is now scheduled for April 2021, a year after its originally release date.

We previously addressed the rumours surrounding Lashana's role in the long running film franchise. At the time, the rumours were met with some backlash from traditionalists who believe that 007 should be played by a white man. Despite the negativity there was also a lot of support for being a huge step in the right direction for diversity.

Fans will have to wait several more months to see Lashana take on the 007 mantle.

MGM, Universal and Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli addressed the delays in a statement on social media.

The statement reads: "We understand the delay will be disappointing to our fans but we now look forward to sharing No Time To Die next year."

In the new film we will see Daniel Craig return as Bond for the final time. The cast also includes Lashana Lynch as Nomi, Ana de Armas, Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Billy Magnussen and more.

No Time To Die is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on April 2, 2021.
