Game of Thrones season eight finally has a release date and teaser after keeping fans waiting for what feels like an eternity.

HBO has announced that the final season of the fantasy series will be hitting screens in April 2019, although it didn't divulge an exact day.

The news was shared in a teaser video for Game of Thrones today (Tuesday, 13th November), confirming fan speculation. You can watch the teaser here:

Fans are hoping that the final series will put an end to all the unanswered questions left at the end of season seven - one of the biggest being whether Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen will realise they are blood relatives.

The final episode of series seven saw Daenerys and Jon falling into each other's arms and consummating their relationship, unaware that she is his aunt.

It's unclear if the pair will recoil in disgust at their act of incest or continue their romance when they discover they are related.

What their union means for the future of Westeros also remains to be seen.

Filming for this upcoming series has taken much longer than any other, according to the show's producers and cast.

It's been shrouded in secrecy to ensure that no spoilers leak ahead of its release next year.

While this is it for Game Of Thrones, a spin-off show was recently announced - although it is yet to be named.

As for the cast? Naomi Watts will be starring in the series, which fans are calling The Long Night.

The prequel will be set 10,000 years before the events in Game Of Thrones, but the actress' role remains to be seen.
