Apple Unveils iPhone 12 With 5G, Which Is 'Toughest' Phone Yet But Comes With No Adapter

Apple Unveils iPhone 12 With 5G, Which Is 'Toughest' Phone Yet But Comes With No Adapter

Apple has unveiled its new iPhone 12 models, which will not only feature 5G and Apple's new A14 Bionic chip, but also promise to be Apple's toughest and strongest phones yet - although controversially, they won't come with a power adapter.

After weeks of leaks and rumours, Apple CEO Tim Cook debuted the iPhone 12 range at Apple's virtual launch event today, introducing the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Confirming that the new models will be the first to feature 5G for iPhone, Cook referred to the news as 'the most exciting step yet'.

"The next generation is here today," he said.

"We're bringing 5G for iPhone. This is a huge moment for all of us and we're really excited."

The phones will connect to Verizon's 'Ultra-Wideband' network, with Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg adding: "5G just got real."

Apple said the new phones would feature the company's brightest display ever, with the screen also set to be 'tougher than any smartphone glass' thanks to technology called 'Ceramic Shield', which gives them four times the chance of surviving without cracking.

As part of Apple's aims to have net-zero carbon emissions across all product lines, it announced the new models won't come with a power adapter or headphones, with just a USB-C to Lightning cable included in the box.

The iPhone 12 Mini costs from $699 (£699 in the UK), the iPhone 12 from $799 (£799 in UK), the iPhone 12 Pro from $999 (£999 in UK) and the iPhone 12 Pro Max from $1,099 (£1,099 in UK).

The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are available for preorder on 16 October, for delivery on 23 October, while the iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max are available for preorder on 6 November, for delivery on 13 November.

The event was streamed online from Apple Park in Cupertino, California, following Apple's annual September event last month, where the tech giant announced its new Apple Watch and iPad models.

For today's bash, Cook promised 'huge' announcements were on the way, kicking off with the 'newest addition to the HomePod family', the HomePod Mini. Costing $99 (£99 in the UK), it's a more affordable version of the original device, and is available from 6 November.
