In the days before smartphones, when we were grounded all we could do was sit in isolation and wait to be released from the constraints of our bedroom. Flash-forward to 2019 and now kids are talking to each other through everyday kitchen appliances.
Yes, really.
When one resourceful teen - known only as Dorothy on her Twitter account - had her phone and electronic devices confiscated by her mum for causing a fire by not paying attention while cooking (fair enough), she found a brilliant new way to stay relevant on Twitter - by Tweeting from her Nintendo DS.

Unfortunately Dorothy's plan was quickly discovered by her eagle-eyed mum, who not only took away her device, but announced her move to the world too.

Not to be silenced, Dorothy turned to her Nintendo Wii which was also swiftly removed, so the teen was left with no other choice but to use the family fridge.

We're not talking about a midnight snack here - the teenager actually sent a tweet FROM HER FRIDGE.
"I do not know if this is going to tweet I am talking to my fridge what the heck my Mom confiscated all of my electronics again," she said to her 29k followers.

"She [my mum] took all my tech so I'd pay more attention to my surroundings," Dorothy told The Guardian, who she messaged from her cousin's iPad.
"I felt mortified! I was worried because I've been bored all summer and Twitter passes the time for me."
Dorothy's prowess has earned her a number of high profile supporters including LG Electronics who started a #FreeDorothy hashtag. The official Twitter account even got on board calling her "an icon" and we couldn't agree more.

Judging by her latest tweets, Dorothy still hasn't been reunited with her phone, but fans are rallying round her to offer support during this tough time.
"Dorothy honey we're gonna get you out of there I promise," tweeted one follower. While another said: "OMG how can you tweet from your fridge, our hero."

Dorothy has been lapping up the attention, with a post saying: "I don't know how I got this much support thank you so much to my supporters and @twitter this is crazy I would be lost without you and given up.
"I'm trying to get my things back fast so I can thank you properly!"
