or years opinion has been divided over breastfeeding versus bottle feeding debate and midwives are now advising new mums to do whichever they feel most comfortable with.

Despite the new guidelines, one woman went viral when she tweeted that the debate between the two feeding methods is 'pointless'.

Beauty blogger Caroline Hirons from London, weighed in on the issue on Twitter during World Breastfeeding Week.

The 49-year-old claimed breastfeeding was pointless because children grow up and eat junk food anyway.

She tweeted: "I can't believe it's 2018 and we're still discussing breast vs formula like it matters at the end of the day.

"Just feed your kid and get on with your day. They all grow up to eat Haribo and McDonalds anyway.

"Yes, even your kid, kale-blending Cynthia in the pilates pants."

Caroline's tweet has been retweeted more than 5,000 times, receiving more than 27,000 likes and provoking other mums to debate on social media.

One mum responded: "Clueless statement by a privileged person living in a rich country. WBW is not about you. What about the mothers living in countries with no access to clean water & cant sterilise bottles? What about the mothers who cant afford formula? Breast the safest for their babies & FREE."

Caroline tweeted back: "I'm hardly 'clueless' about BF thanks. I've done it four times. And I'm clearly talking about women in the westernised world being made to feel guilty by forums because they are struggling with it. Nestle pushing formula into poorer countries is another matter altogether."

Another person said: "How disappointing. The benefits of breastmilk for both mother and baby are too great to trivialise and dismiss the like this. There are other ways to be supportive and inclusive."

A third person raged: "Ugh, yet another blogger looking for exposure jumping on the bandwagon. WBW is NOT about breastfeeding vs formula. It is about breastfeeding. The clue is sort of in the name. You got your exposure though so who cares about undermining breastfeeding right? Well done you."

There were others who agreed with Caroline with one person exclaiming: "Oh my god thank you!! Someone who speaks sense!!"

A second person added: "Oh here here!! I could not agree with this more!!"
