The remake of The Witches movie looks truly terrifying - and now, lead actor Anne Hathaway has shown just how much work has gone into making the 37-year-old look so spooky.

The Princess Diaries star posted a video to her 18 million followers showing the brutal process that transforms her into The Grand High Witch.

The sped-up montage shows Hathaway sat in a make-up chair with wires attached from the ceiling to the top of her head to keep her sitting up straight, while a team of make-up artists apply layers of clay to the top of her face to create the moulds that form her terrifying facial features in the upcoming film.

Hathaway humourously captioned the video: "Everyone: It's magic! Me:..."

Several fans rushed to comment on how difficult the process must be to endure, with one writing: "Pffff, much respect Anne! I would faint and have panic attacks. Even though that's not possible at the same time."

Another said: "OMG, I was suffocating just watching this!"

Hathaway's upcoming movie is set in 1960's Alabama, and sees an orphaned boy turned into a mouse after he accidentally stumbles into a conference of witches.

A remake of Roald Dahl's beloved dark children's tale, The Witches boasts an all-star cast including Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock and Octavia Spencer.

Fans will notice it's a Devil Wears Prada reunion, with Hathaway having previously starred alongside Tucci in the hit 2006 fashion film.

It's something Hathaway has commented on herself, telling Variety: "So much has changed in each of our lives. But he is still the same wry, funny, sweet person he was then. He was always getting me to laugh and break character on The Devil Wears Prada, so I felt really proud when I got him to giggle and break with my accent on The Witches."

The Witches will be released on October 26th.
