Tourists Beware, Spain And Portugal Could Hit 48C Next Week

Tourists Beware, Spain And Portugal Could Hit 48C Next Week

If you would like a sneak preview of what the temperatures in hell are like, then head to Spain or Portugal next week where it's set to reach an eye-watering 48C.

Hot air coming over from the Sahara will turn parts of Spain and Portugal into a hellish inferno with forecasters predicting it could top the 48C, the record for Europe, set in 1977. Bloody hell, it's going to take a lot of Fanta Limon to cool that down, isn't it?

Meanwhile, Lisbon is set to hit 45C and Madrid could reach 44C - and the south of France is also set to be roasting.

And it's not just our pals in mainland Europe who are going to be blasted with heat - parts of the UK are also forecasting temperatures of above 30C, mostly in the south.

According to the Met Office, the weather next week could even top the hottest day of 2018 so far, when it was a sweltering 35.3C. Good God, just make it stop.

Richard Miles, a forecaster from the Met Office, told the Mirror: "With 48C expected in Iberia, highs are likely to beat records. Tourists in Spain and Portugal clearly need to take care in such high temperatures.

"Continental heat will move up to Britain from the south. The low 30s are possible from Friday to Sunday.

"The south and east will be hottest, and it will be a warm weekend for most, although cooler in the north."

Bookies Coral has slashed the odds of the hottest August ever to 5/4, with a spokesperson referring to 2018 as the 'never-ending summer'.

As ever, when the heat creeps up to these sorts of levels there are warnings in place to stay safe - make sure you slather on loads of factor 50, stay out of the sun when it's hottest (11am to 3pm) and keep hydrated. All pretty common-sense stuff.
