Royal Mint To Release A Special Gruffalo 50p Coin
Royal Mint is celebrating 20 years of the Gruffalo with a new special 50 pence piece.
The coin is set to feature the beloved children's character on one side, although Royal Mint hasn't shared an image of the new 50p just yet.
However, here's our own mock-up to give you an idea:
After confirming the coin's creation back in November 2018, Royal Mint also announced that the special 50p will be launching on Tuesday, 19th February.
"There's someone coming out of the deep dark wood..." revealed Royal Mint on Twitter on Thursday, before listing a competition to win one of your own.

It is currently unclear whether the Gruffalo coin will go into main circulation yet or if it is just for collectors.
As Token Publishing, a site dedicated to coin news, explains: "We aren't sure whether this will go into circulation like the Beatrix Potter and Paddington coins or remain for collectors only (as with the Snowman just before Christmas)."

It is thought that the new coin will have a picture depiction of the Gruffalo on the back as well as the inscription 'THE GRUFFALO'.
The scary but lovable monster first appeared in 1999 after being created by children's author Julia Donaldson and by illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
Millions of copies of her book, also titled The Gruffalo, have sold worldwide. The tale has won numerous awards, been adapted into a TV series and a film, as well as hitting both the West End and Broadway.
