The Queen has released a statement thanking the public for their support in the wake of Prince Philip's death.

Speaking on Wednesday, four days after her late husband's funeral, the monarch said: "I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate.

"While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and all around the world."

Philip passed away 'peacefully' at Windsor Castle on 9th April following a prolonged hospital stay in which he received treatment for an infection as well as a heart condition.

Due to Covid restrictions, just 30 people were permitted to attend his funeral service on Saturday, with separate households required to sit separately.
