Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have announced that they are expecting their first child.

The exciting news was shared on The Royal Family Twitter page on Friday (25th September).

The tweet read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

"The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news."

The pair tied the knot back in October 2018, surrounded by loved ones at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Princess Eugenie, the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, wore a Peter Pilotto wedding dress for the big day.

Brooksbank is a wine merchant and also works as the UK brand ambassador and European manager for Casimigos Tequila, the brand owned by Rande Gerber and George Clooney.

The pair's first encounter was at the ski resort of Verbier in Switzerland, back in 2010. Eugenie was 20, while Brooksbank was 24.

After dating for a year, Brooksbank joined Princess Eugenie for their first official public appearance together at the Royal Ascot in 2011.

Later on, in 2013, Eugenie relocated to New York City to work at online auction house Paddle8, and the couple maintained a long-distance romance.

Two years later, in 2015, the princess moved back across the pond, and she and Brooksbank began building a life together.

Brooksbank popped the question while he and Princess Eugenie were holidaying in Nicaragua in January 2018 - but the pink sapphire engagement ring was designed later.

Apparently, the Queen took a shine to Princess Eugenie's beau from the off, with the young royal telling the BBC: "Granny actually knew right at the beginning [of their engagement]. She was very happy, as was my grandfather."

And the Queen isn't Brooksbank's only fan, because Eugenie's mum Sarah Ferguson once told The One Show that her daughter's then fiancé was "a bringer of light".

"Jack really is a sort of amazing bringer of light and he brings joy," she said.

Fergie went on to say that she approved of her then future son-in-law's career choice.

"The good news is that Jack works as the European manager for Casamigos tequila, so I'm perfect," she enthused.

"He'll just hand me the tequila and say, 'Come on, mother-in-law, down it'."
