Prince Philip Update: Duke Of Edinburgh Spends Second Night In King Edward VII Hospital
Prince Philip has spent his second night in hospital after being taken ill earlier this week.
The 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh is said to be in "good spirits" after being admitted to London's King Edward V Hospital in London on Tuesday.
And well-wishers have 'every reason' to be optimistic about the Queen's husband, who remains in good health despite his old age, according to royal biographer Penny Junor who spoke on BBC Radio 4 this morning.
In a statement on Wednesday, the royal family said: 'His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward V Hospital in London on Tuesday evening."
A source added that Philip was admitted as a "precautionary measure" after not feeling well," adding: "HRH walked into hospital unaided [and] his illness is not Covid-related."
Philip, who retired from royal duties in 2017 and had effectively stepped back from public life, has spent much of his time at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in recent years but has been staying at Windsor Castle with the Queen during the most recent lockdown.

The Duke of Edinburgh has four children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. The most recent addition to the family was Princess Eugenie's little boy, born earlier this month, while Prince Harry is currently expecting his second child with Meghan Markle.
The Queen and her husband celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary last year. He has previously been described by his wife as her "strength and stay".
Speaking at their golden wedding anniversary, in a rare display of public emotion, the Queen said: "He is someone who doesn't take easily to compliments but he has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know."
