Lilibet Diana: Prince Charles Speaks Out On Birth Of Harry And Meghan’s Daughter

Prince Charles has spoken about the birth of his fifth grandchild, Lilibet Diana, calling it "such happy news".

The Prince of Wales made the comment during a trip to the BMW Mini factory in Oxford today.

"The development of technology like electric vehicles...is vital for maintaining the health of our world for future generations, something I am only too aware of today, having recently become a grandfather for the fifth time," he said.

"Such happy news really does remind one of the necessity of continued innovation in this area - especially around sustainable battery technology - in view of the legacy we bequeath to our grandchildren."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on 4th June. The name is a sweet tribute to both Harry's mother, Princess Diana, and to the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.

According to the couple's Archewell website, Lilibet was born at 11.40am. The statement reads: "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.

"Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.

"She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home. Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.

"This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family."

Harry and Meghan added: "On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."

Prince William and Kate Middleton also sent their congratulations to Harry and Meghan.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a post on Instagram, writing: "We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili.

"Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie."

The pair accompanied their statement with a black and white picture of Harry and Meghan cradling baby Archie.
