The brother of the Manchester Arena suicide bomber has been found guilty of murdering 22 people in the 2017 blast.

Hashem Abedi's verdict was read out at the Old Bailey on Tuesday - almost three years after the atrocity - after he was extradited to the UK from Libya last summer.

Hashem is the younger brother of Salman Abedi and was on trial for murdering the 22 victims, conspiring with his sibling to make an explosive, and the attempted murder of the 260 injured victims.

The court heard how he "stood shoulder to shoulder" with his brother in the plot and should be considered "just as guilty" of the attack as Salman.

The device was packed with nuts and bolts to cause maximum damage.

Hashem did not give evidence at the trial and was not in court to hear his verdict, after withdrawing himself from proceedings.

He had pleaded not guilty to all 24 counts, but the Old Bailey heard how he helped his brother source materials for the bomb which was detonated at an Ariana Grande concert on 22 May 2017.

The 22-year-old from Fallowfield, near Manchester, was arrested in Libya the day after the "sudden and lethal" explosion which left hundreds injured.

Abedi arrived back in the UK in July last year after a two-year-long extradition process.

More to follow.
