A dog lover has housed an incredible 97 pooches after this week's onslaught that saw Hurricane Dorian devastate parts of the Bahamas.

Animal lover Chella Phillips of Nasay in Bahamas, manages The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, an organisation that links US based rescue and adoption organisations with local dogs in an attempt to ensure the animals' safety.

During Hurricane Dorian, Chella took matters into her own hands, welcoming almost 100 dogs into her home and caring for them during the storm.

She shared pictures of the dogs on Facebook along with a message explaining her heartbreak over her inability to look after anymore.

"Each island has an abundance of homeless dogs, my heart is so broken for the ones without a place to hide a CAT 5 monster and only God can protect them now." she said.

Despite her unprecedented generosity however, giving up her whole home for the safety of the dogs did come with some obvious scatterlogical implications:

"Ninety-seven dogs are inside my house and 79 of them are inside my master bedroom. It has been insane since last night, poop and piss non stop but at least they are respecting my bed and nobody has dared to jump in," she added.

Nonetheless, Chella's dedication to keeping the dogs secure and her gratitude towards those who helped her in this endeavour outweighed any inconvenience they may have caused.

"We have barricaded the refuge and nobody is outside, the music is playing in all directions of the house and the AC is blowing for them," she explained.

"I managed to bring some less fortunate ones and I really appreciate some of you donating for crates.. I really needed it for the scared ones and the sick ones. So thank you!"

What's more, this week marks The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau's fourth anniversary, providing a moment of reflection for Chella who has rescued almost 1,000 animals during that time.

The post quickly went viral with hundreds praising the woman's care and generosity.

Taking to Facebook the following day, she explained to well-wishers the events that took place through the course of the night, admitting it was stressful and tiring.

"We are alright after a stressful night were we flooded bad inside the refuge, not even three pumps could contain the rain from washing us inside and after an hour all three pumps reheated and burned down and we have been outside with buckets fighting a losing battle."
