If you haven't already dug your winter coat out then you might want to get a move on as the UK could be hit with snow tomorrow.

Although it might feel like only yesterday when you were sat in the beer garden during summer's unusual heatwave, winter is well and truly back this week.

The Met Office is expecting extremely cold conditions with temperatures being three degrees lower than average for this time of year.

Temperatures will drop from highs of 18C to 7C so it could also be time to treat yourself to a new scarf.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern has warned that snow and sleet could hit lower levels of Britain overnight between Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday morning.

During his forecast, he said: "For most it's a cold but not frosty start to Tuesday.

"A cold wind blowing in from the east, a stiff breeze there along the eastern side of Britain and that wind will push in more and more frequent showers.

"For the western extremities of the UK we'll keep some brightness but for most it's cloudy and top temperatures on the thermometer will be 5C or 6C but it will feel more like 3C or 4C.

"Now we keep that north-easterly wind in the northern half of the UK in particular until Wednesday but the wind does shift direction ever so slightly by Wednesday.

"Through Tuesday night we'll see more and more showers coming in and colder air as well.

"That means that by the early hours of Wednesday we're likely to see sleet and snow coming in even at relatively low ground across parts of Wales and southern England we'll see some sleetiness with the showers and we could even see a few flakes of snow.

"Temperatures dipping close to freezing in most places but largely staying above 0C because of the stiff wind and the largely cloudy skies that we will wake up to Wednesday."

Hopefully the snow will not be as heavy as when the Beast from the East paid the UK a visit earlier this year.
