Royal Mail is definitely spreading Christmas cheer and singing loud for all to hear this year by installing musical postboxes in London, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh.

Whether you're posting your letter to Santa or sending out last-minute Christmas cards, you will have a chance to hear festive jingles as you post your letters to make you feel a bit more merry.

The specific locations of the postboxes haven't been disclosed just yet, but they will be installed with sensors which will trigger either the sound of sleigh bells or a jolly message from Father Christmas himself.

The musical postboxes will be located in London, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh. (

All the musical postboxes will be covered with white snowflakes, so they'll be easily identifiable.

Simon Barker, operations director at Royal Mail, said: "Delivering Christmas is our absolute priority this December.

"In the process, we enjoy any way we can add a little extra fun to posting Christmas cards this year."

They are also running their annual letter to Santa scheme again this year where the children in your life can receive their own letter from the big man himself.

Any letters to Santa must be posted by the 7th December and details can be found here.

The Royal Mail has also released their last posting dates for Christmas to make sure your gifts and letters to Santa arrive in time.

If you're planning on posting something 2nd Class (whether it is signed for or not), you have to make sure it has been posted by Tuesday 18 December.

Don't panic if you are running late though, as if you post something 1st Class, signed for 1st Class and Royal Mail Tracked 48 hours you have until the 20 December.

Again, if you are super disorganised and want to send something Royal Mail Tracked 24 you have until the 21 December and if you really do forget until the last minute you can send something through their Special Delivery Guaranteed service on the 22 December.

You can also download a full list of last posting dates for international destinations here.
