Lady Gaga In Talks To Join Joaquin Phoenix In Joker Sequel

That's right, our favourite singer, actor, and all-around star Gaga might be in the mix for 'Joker: Folie à Deux'.

Lady Gaga is reportedly in talks to join the highly-anticipated Joker sequel.

As if fans weren't already riled up about Joaquin Phoenix returning to his iconic yet completely unsettling role, he might have a new co-star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gaga is slated to play none other than Harley Quinn.

Now, we know what you're thinking - isn't that Margot Robbie's role? The one that basically everyone dressed up as for Halloween in 2016?

Well, Robbie does play the therapist-turned-violent counterpart of the Joker but Gaga could also step into the role too as Joker: Folie à Deux takes place in a different universe to the Suicide Squad.

If that wasn't enough to get you excited about the film, it's also apparently a musical, according to sources from The Hollywood Reporter.

And, given Gaga's singing prowess and the incredible dance number Phoenix pulled off in the first film, we're pretty excited to see how this one plays out.

While the rest of the film's details are being kept tightly under wraps, Todd Phillips is confirmed to direct again, with co-writer Scott Silver in on the project.

Although little is known about the storyline, that didn't stop fans from hazarding a guess based on the film's title.

'Folie à Deux,' translates to the 'madness of two' and, naturally, eagle-eyed fans were quick to dig up receipts for plot clues.

Among what they found was a GQ interview from January with Willem Dafoe, who has long coveted the Joker role, which might shed some light on the story.

"There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker Imposter," he said.

"So it would be possible to have not duelling Jokers but someone that says to be the Joker that isn't the Joker. And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did.

"I fantasised about that."

And given that this idea is pretty similar to the plotline of the comic book The Return of the Joker, you can see why fans were more than a little excited.

But, with no set release date or confirmed plot details, it might be a while before we find out whether Gaga and Defoe are really in the film.
