UNO Reveals You Don't Have To Yell 'UNO Out' When You Play Your Last Card

UNO Reveals You Don't Have To Yell 'UNO Out' When You Play Your Last Card

Well... this changes everything.

If your holidays are anything like ours, you'll undoubtedly spend at least a few hours of your Christmas playing UNO with your relatives.

So, we thought we'd bring you an important PSA.

If you forget to shout 'UNO out' when you put your last card down then don't let Uncle Barry tell you that means you haven't won.

Because UNO has now confirmed on social media that while shouting the term is a 'popular house rule' it's not actually a deal-breaker.

Creating a viral poll on Twitter, one user wrote: "Do you have to say uno out when you play your last card in @realUNOgame ??? Heated debate rn wit the fam".

And 61.9 per cent of the 56,900 votes voted that you did, while only 38.1 per cent thought you could win without.

But UNO itself had the final say, when the game's social media account replied to the tweet, and wrote: "While calling "UNO Out" when you play your last card is a popular House Rule, it's not required.

"UNO has spoken."

UNO clarified its rules on Twitter (

We don't know about you, but in our house this changes everything.

Taking to social media after the card game broke the news, one person wrote: "We keep telling Uno that they make the cards but not the rules."

While another infuriated fan of the game tweeted them and wrote: "Ima just block you (sic)".

"Who the hell keeps asking UNO for their opinions on UNO, just loud and wrong!," a third wrote.

UNO is known for chipping in about the rules on social media, and - as you can see - it doesn't always wash well.

The game also recently confirmed that you have to yell 'UNO' when you play your second last card, and if you get called out on it then you have to pick up another card.

The company also said that you can't stack +2 cards on top of each other (but we don't talk about that rule, because it's clearly bogus...)

Feel free to file this announcement for when you get into a Christmas UNO row. You're welcome.
