An autopsy has revealed that Gabby Petito died by strangulation.
Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue announced the devastating findings on Tuesday following an extensive autopsy after the 22-year-old influencer was found dead.
Speaking at a press briefing, Blue said: "In the manner of death we find the cause and manner to be cause death by strangulation and manner is homicide."
The news comes after human remains that were discovered in a remote area of Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming were confirmed to be Gabby's.
Preliminary findings had discovered that the cause of Gabby’s death was “homicide.”
Gabby was reported missing by parents on September 11th, after they had failed to hear from her since late August.
She had been travelling around the country in a mini-van with Laundrie, who returned to his family home in Florida without her.
He did not disclose Gabby's whereabouts, and went missing himself just days after his return.
Police are still searching for Laundrie, and have issued an arrest warrant after they alleged that Brian committed bank card fraud while Gabby was missing.
The case has attracted attention worldwide; Gabby’s status as a YouTuber and an influencer, regularly documenting her trips across America, has seen followers try and ascertain Gabby's movements before she died.
Police bodycam footage, which saw Gabby in a state of distress, has also brought national and international attention to the case, with many people discussing theories on social media.
Speaking at a funeral service for Gabby, her father, Joe Petito, told mourners: ""I don't want you guys to be sad, to be honest with you. Gabby did not live that way."
“If there is a relationship that you’re in that might not be the best thing for you, leave it now. Take care of yourself first.
“I would like you to take a look at these videos [of Gabby's road-trip] and I want you to be inspired by them. If there’s a trip you guys want to take, take it now.
"Do it now while you have the time.”
“Gabby is the most amazing person I’ve ever met,” he concluded. “So, if you’re going to leave here today, I’m asking that you guys be inspired by the way she treated people, all people.
“The entire planet knows this woman’s name."
