Student Makes Passive Aggressive Survey For Housemates On How To Use Bins

Student Makes Passive Aggressive Survey For Housemates On How To Use Bins

The student found the perfectly 'salty' and passive aggressive way to remind her housework-shy flatmates to take the overflowing bins out.

If you've ever shared a house you'll know the struggle is real with flatmates not doing chores. Sure, you don't want to cause friction with a passive-aggressive note on the fridge or an angry message to the Whatsapp group chat - but you don't want to take out the overflowing bin for the forth time this week either.

But this student came up with a creative solution to try and nix the problem once and for all.

Ruth, a student at Lancaster University, lives in a house with 10 other people. After taking the bin out for the forth time that week in the rain (and coming back with soggy slippers) she sent a link to a mystery survey to her housemates.

She said it was about a cause that's "close and dear" to her heart and urged them to fill it in.

The message said: "Guys can you please please please please pretty PLEEEEASE do this survey for me real quick. It'll take like 30 seconds and it's on a subject that's really close and dear to my heart. Thankeeee."

Little did her cohabitants know that, when they followed the link, they'd be forced to answer a series of not-so-sutble questions about the house bins.

Housemate and fellow student, India Ellis, shared the survey on Twitter with the caption: "If anyone wanted an insight into living with students, my housemate has just sent this survey to the house chat for us to fill in."

The first question was: "Do you know where the bins are situated?"

The options for answers were: "Of course, for I am a human being with eyes" or "Lol what is B I N."

Question two said: "Are you aware that bins, when full, require emptying?"

And the options were: "I got into a top 10 uni, clearly I have more than three brain cells" or "Omg wot I just assumed the magical bin pixies do it when I'm asleep haha wot crazy."

The third question added: "So how about emptying those bins once in a while, eh?"

With the answers: "Of course, for I wish to create a happy and tidy living situation for my housemates, and strive towards a society where everyone contributes to make the world a better place" or "Yes of course my good friend Ruth, because it is all our rubbish after all."

The final question: "Did I create this survey PURELY because I'm salty about emptying all the bins for the fourth time in a row and wished to communicate this in a passive aggressive yet mildly witty way?"

And the only answers for that one were "Yes" or "Yes".

Ruth's flatmate India posted the survey on Twitter and it seems lots of people thought it was a great idea.

The tweet has been liked more than 52K times and retweeted over 7.8K times since being posted on Friday (at the time of writing).

Reactions came flooding in from people in house shares who were relating hard.

One wrote: "This is literally my flat."

While another tweeted: "We needed something like this in first year."

A third said: "Think this is our next strategy moving forward."
