Just when you thought that Brussel sprouts couldn't get any worse, an overturned lorry full of them has caused traffic delays in the UK.

The trailer overturned around 10.45am on Monday, 16th December 2019 at a roundabout on Admiralty Road in Rosyth, Fife.

The road was closed until after midday as workers used shovels and a mechanical digger to clean away the green veg.

South West Fife police responded by warning drivers to stay away from the area in case of delays, adding that: "Christmas dinner may also be affected."

They posted on Twitter: "There's been a bit of a #BrusselSprouts accident at the roundabout at Admiralty Road, #Rosyth.

"Please avoid the area if possible. Traffic and #Christmas dinners may be affected. Apologies for any delays..."

Responding to the police, one un-bothered user said: "absolutely no sprout about it".

While another said: "This isn't funny - have you any idea how many Christmas dinners have been made edible by this accident."

A third joked: "Three second rule... get in there and pick em up."

While a Facebook post from the local church St John and St Columba said: "For the sake of clarity, Father Kevin (Dow) can't stand Brussels sprouts and so this delivery is definitely at the wrong address."

There were thankfully no reports of any injuries, just some very unfortunate sprouts.

While many in Fife may be rejoicing at the lack of sprouts on their plates this Christmas, lovers of the green veg may be a little disappointed.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the process (

Perhaps they could stock up on sprout flavoured crisps instead?

Yep, Walkers is currently tantalising tastebuds with their limited-edition seasonal flavours, which include a crisp with sprout-y flavour notes.

Delicious or downright offensive? You decide.
