What is it that makes red velvet cake so damn delicious?

Loading…

Is it the smooth topping of cream cheese frosting? The moist, ruby-red sponge? Or the deeply indulgent chocolatey flavour?

Whatever the answer, red velvet is a long-standing favourite in the cake department - and now Bailey's has teamed up with the iconic Hummingbird Bakery to bring us a boozy spin on the reigning red-tinted cupcake.

Famed American-born bakery Hummingbird is credited with introducing red velvet cupcakes to the UK - and now there's a new flavour in town.

Step up Bailey's Red Velvet Cupcake Deluxe. Created using a velvety-smooth Red Cupcake edition of Bailey's that launched last November, the cakes have an extra kick of the Irish liqueur, which is mixed into the icing, sponge and cheesecake centre.

The creaminess of Bailey's mixed with the chocolatey, cheesecake-y decadence of a red velvet cupcake? Stop. It.

The liqueur itself is sweetshop pink, and Bailey's describe the taste as "made for dessert lovers, combining that classic red velvet cheesecake-y taste with a Baileys twist."

Launching across all London branches of The Hummingbird Bakery and online throughout February, the scrummy cakes are the ideal gift for Valentine's Day - or just a sugary pick-me-up in cold, grey January.

Team Tyla will be sharing a box on 13th February, AKA Galentine's Day.

Elsewhere in the world of sweet treats, Lotus Biscoff KitKats are now available, and they are truly a thing of beauty. Nestle really nailed this take on the popular chocolate wafer bar, packing it full of heavenly Biscoff spread and crumbly biscuit.

And let's not forget Ben & Jerry's new Netflix & Chill'd flavour - a peanut butter dairy edition combining sweet and salty pretzel swirls, all topped off with a scattering of indulgent brownie pieces.

Where's the drool emoji when you need it?
