Breakfast radio during awards show season is always an interesting one.

We're used to struggling hosts on the airwaves after a night on the champers - after all, who remembers Nick Grimshaw pulling his famous all-nighters back in the day?!

But Greg James, 34, took the BRIT Awards hangover one step further on Wednesday and actually failed to turn up at 6.30am for his slot on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast.

When fans of his show tuned in excitedly to see what state Greg would be in, they were instead greeted by non other than Adele Roberts, who was forced to roll through from her early breakfast show and do a double shift.

As the show was introduced with Greg's usual jingle, Adele chimed in sheepishly, saying: "Yeah... about that".

Labelling Greg a "dirty little no show," Adele went on to put a call out for Greg on the airwaves, and ask if anybody had seen him looking boozy on Instagram.

'The last I saw him was...you know Grace on Breakfast, he was on Grace's Instagram Stories about midnight,' Adele continued. 'I saw a flash of him with Yannis from Foals.

"If you do spot him, please do send him our way," she told listeners.

Meanwhile, presenter Jordan North - who had been partying with him earlier in the night but still made it in - added: "He's in a lot of trouble. It's the biggest breakfast show in the world and he hasn't turned up."

And Greg's own wife, Bella Mackie tweeted: "Husband didn't come home last night," alongside three shrugging emojis.

THE PLOT THICKENS.

Poor Adele was then forced to wing the rest of the breakfast show from scratch.

But she did it in good honour, taking on a motherly role and offering hungover Jordan and Arielle Free a brew before gleefully mocking Greg for his massive faux pas.

The last time Greg posted on his own social was when he took to Instagram at 10pm last night to gush about the BRIT Award winners, and give a special shout out to Dave for his incredible performance.

Clearly not anticipating his upcoming lie in, he added: "What a night. 6.30am is going to be fun".

Of course, there were some that thought the whole thing was nothing more than a publicity stunt.

After all, this wouldn't be the first time Radio 1 has sent us on a massive, orchestrated game of hide and seek to find Greg. (Tyla has contacted BBC Radio 1 for comment.)

But this didn't stop other of Greg's loyal listeners being totally convinced, and starting a *literal* search party for him.

Was he partying with Lizzo and Harry Styles? Perhaps he'd fallen asleep at an afterparty after a few too many Proseccos? And did you see that picture of him with Foals, which they cryptically captioned: "Greg_james we won, you are coming with us #brits".

It truly is a MYSTERY.

Taking to Twitter as it all unfolded, one wrote: "@gregjames are you ok Hun? #gregjamesmia."

While another added: "@gregjames where you at???".

A third chipped in: "This whole missing @gregjames thing on @BBCRadio1Offici is bloody hilarious!! So glad it's half term and I can listen to the end. Will he make it in? This is now the big question of the nation".

But it's all good, guys! Adele later reassured listeners: "Please don't worry about Greg James.

"He is definitely safe and sound.. he is just very much asleep."

Greg is all of us. We are Greg.
