John Legend has written a touching tribute to his wife Chrissy Teigen for Mother's Day following the loss of their son Jack.

The All of Me singer, 42, took to Instagram to pay tribute to his "inspiration" and "best friend" with a heart-warming picture of their family including Luna, five and Miles, two.

"Happy Mother's Day to my wonderful wife!" John wrote in the caption. "It's been a year that tested you in so many ways but you've come through stronger, wiser, happier and a better mother than ever."

He added: "I'm so fortunate to have you as my partner, my inspiration and my best friend. I love you forever."

John and Chrissy, 35, have been incredibly open about their journey after their loss in September, when Chrissy was 20 weeks into her pregnancy. The pair chose to make a heart-breaking public announcement on social media after Chrissy documented being taken to hospital for excessive bleeding during her pregnancy.

In a statement released confirming the upsetting news, Chrissy wrote: "To our Jack - I'm so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn't give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you."

Chrissy received praise from her followers and charities for opening up about her experiences. In April, Chrissy spoke to People magazine about not being able to carry another child: "Coming to terms with not being able to carry again is still really difficult for me because I feel so healthy. I'm like, why?"

"But then I think about it as my uterus is just not cooperating with me - and it's not a failure."

The TV personality and former model also explained why she decided to share photos of the family going through the loss of Jack to her 34 million Instagram followers.

"I knew I needed to know of this moment forever," she said in a blog post at the time.

"And I absolutely knew I needed to share this story."

Chrissy has also become an advocate for women speaking openly about their pregnancy loss journeys and she has now teamed up with Fertility Out Loud as a spokesperson.

The Fertility Out Loud campaign gives women a platform to discuss topics around fertility and pregnancy.
