'Glee' Star Naya Rivera's Ex-Husband Ryan Dorsey Posts Heartbreaking Instagram Tribute
Naya Rivera's ex-husband has posted a heartbreaking tribute to the late Glee star following her death earlier this month.
Ryan Dorsey, who was married to Naya for four years and is the father of her son Josey, spoke of his heartbreak at her untimely death.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the 37-year-old actor wrote: "This is so unfair...there's not enough words to express the hole left in everyone's hearts. I can't believe this is life now. I don't know if I'll ever believe it.
"You were just here... We were just in the back swimming with Josey the day before. Life just isn't fair. I don't know what to say...I'm thankful for our times and our journey that brought us together and gave us the sweetest and kindest smart little boy we could ever hope for.
"I remember sometimes you used to get annoyed at me: 'Ryan can you stop snap chatting!' Haha. I'm glad I didn't listen to you because I have hundreds and probably thousands of snaps and videos that Josey will have forever and know his momma loved him more than life, and how much fun we had together as he was growing up. Life is all about good times and bad times but with Josey it makes the bad a little less so because a part of you will always be with us.
"He'll never forget where he came from. We miss you. We will always love you. Love you Meep."
Sharing a picture of Naya and her four-year-old son Josey, he added: "To everyone that reached out and I haven't had a chance to or just didn't get back to you...thank you all for the overwhelming love and support you've sent our way.
"I'll just say in closing, be kind to yourself, be kind to others, forgive...forget...don't hold grudges....if you have nothing nice to say maybe try not to say anything. There's peace in silence.
"Time on Earth is precious and you just never know....you never know what could happen. Hold your loved ones close, and cherish the times you have with those you care about."
Police say Naya "mustered enough strength to save her son but not herself" when the pair went swimming in Lake Piru on Wednesday 8th July.
Ventura County Sheriff's Department held a press conference where they announced they were confident that a body they had found in the lake was 33-year-old Naya.
You can watch the heartbreaking announcement below:
Discussing the circumstances surrounding Naya's death, Sheriff Bill Ayub said it was possible Naya had found the energy to help her son back into the pontoon boat, but was unable to save herself.
He explained: "We know from speaking with her son that he and Naya swam in the lake together at some point in their journey.
"It was during that time that her son described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind. He told investigators that he looked back and saw her disappear beneath the water."
During press questions at the end of the announcement earlier this month, Ayub added: "We believe it was mid-afternoon when she disappeared.
"The idea perhaps being that the boat started drifting, it was unanchored, and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back into the boat, but not enough to save herself."
They added that there was no suspicion of suicide or foul play. Naya had rented a boat for her and her four-year-old son, Josey, to take out onto the lake at around 1pm on Wednesday 8th July.
But just hours later, Josey was found in the boat asleep by himself, along with Naya's life jacket, ID and purse. Naya was nowhere to been.
The police were notified and a search began. At the time, Josey told police that the pair had been swimming, but that Naya never got back into the boat.
Since the tragic news was confirmed, there has been an outpouring of love for Naya.
One person wrote on Twitter: "Heartbreaking to hear the police report confirming that they've found Naya Rivera. She used the last of her energy to save her son's life. She died a mother and a hero. RIP Naya."
Another person added: "The fact that #nayarivera risked her life to save her son rather then saving herself shows how great of a mother she was. her son is alive because of her. she was amazing till the end. rest in peace naya."
Our thoughts are with Naya's family and friends.
