Megan Barton-Hanson has shared an emotional statement on Instagram, saying that her 'whole world is crumbling' following her split from Love Island boyfriend Wes Nelson.

After seven months of dating, Megan announced she and Wes had decided to call time on their romance with a lighthearted, Gwyneth Paltrow-inspired message on how they'd co-parent their shared hamster. She was then seen supporting her ex-beau during his Dancing On Ice performance beaming from the crowds.

But despite putting on a happy face in light of the break-up and staying strong, it seems like Megan is struggling to handle the scores of vile trolls targeting her over the past few days. As if a dealing with a break-up in the public eye isn't hard enough, she's had abuse hurled at her online.

Wes and Megan's home they shared together was broken into a day before their split too.

In a heartbreaking post shared to her Instagram again, the reality star explained that she'd gone through one of the worst days of her life on Monday night.

"Hands down been one of the worst days of my life," Megan started the message. "I can't thank you all enough for the support. It makes it all worthwhile, (the endless trolling, negative stories, dealing with publicly breaking up, being papped having to force a smile when my whole world is crumbling.)

The Love Island star continued: "Feels like I can't put a foot right BUT knowing I can help motivate/inspire people even a TINY bit makes me want to continue on in the public eye. I'm determined to make 2019 a positive happy year."

Megan went on to share a string of supportive messages from her fans, who revealed that Megan has helped them get through some of their own darkest days.

As the messages flooded in, Megan captioned one of them: "Little positivity on a sh*tty day."

Wes hasn't publicly commented on their break-up since the statement was shared at the weekend, although it was signed at the end by both Megan and Wes.

Part of the message read: "We have been working hard for well under a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much, we will remain separate."
