Money Saving Expert founder and financial expert Martin Lewis, has revealed he has to pull out of his TV appearances because of an unbearably painful throat ulcer.

Posting on Facebook on Thursday, he explained that "eating and speaking" had become "truly agonising" and had to cancel commitments because of it.

Martin was supposed to appear on ITV's Good Morning Britain but said the thought of leaving the house had left him "literally shaking with nerves".

The presenter has regular segments on both Good Morning Britain, This Morning as well as his own ITV and BBC Radio 5 Live consumer shows.

Since Monday morning he's been talking about feeling unwell and confessed that it's the "first time in years" he had been forced to call in sick.

Martin explained said there was no known cure for the ulcer except time and that he would have to wait out his symptoms until he started to feel better naturally.

It's certainly been a stressful few weeks for the consumer-finance journalist and entrepreneur, who revealed at the end of January that he'd decided to drop the legal action he'd brought against social-media giant, Facebook.

He'd previously decided to sue the social network over adverts running on the platform that were falsely claiming he had put his name to a number of investment schemes.

Martin dropped the legal case after Facebook agreed to introduce a button to report this type of scam advertising and promised to give £3m to Citizens Advice by way of compensation.

In a later update on his health, the 46-year-old said he had managed some filming with the help of an anaesthetic spray that numbed his thought but that he had to "steel" himself for "the pain coming back".
