According to the Australian Associated Press, Dan, who shot to fame on season 6 of the dating show, is one of 11 people charged with fraud while others are facing charges of money laundering, too.
According to reports, 500 people are listed to be called as witnesses, with police first starting investigations into the alleged incident back in 2013.
The hearing began in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, with the prosecution arguing the alleged scam has raked in around $24million(AUD) - the equivalent of almost £13.5million.

Dan, a car broker, married Tamara Rose on the Australian reality show, but later began an affair with Jessika Power.
The show was filmed in Oz back in 2018, before hitting TV screens in 2019. It is now currently airing in the UK, and has hooked British viewers thanks to its juicy drama.
One of the most dramatic storylines includes Dan's affair with Jess, who married Mick Gould at the start of the experiment.

As the pair carried out their affair, fans took to Twitter with the #FreeMick movement, with many demanding Mick be allowed to depart the show based on Jess' lies and deceit.
Explaining to cameras that she wanted to get to know Dan more, Jess hatched a plan to stay in her marriage to Mick so she could spend more time with Dan - despite being no longer interested in her husband in the slightest.
And naturally, fans were not happy about it.

While another added: "God, Mick is my fave #MarriedAtFirstSightAustralia #FreeMick."
The show continues to be aired in the UK at 7.30pm on weekdays, on E4.
