Keira Knightley has revealed that she has banned her daughter from watching Cinderella and The Little Mermaid because she doesn't want her to think 'she needs a man to save her'.

The actress says she is very particular with Edie's viewing habits, but she does allow her three-year-old to watch more modern Disney hits.

Speaking on The Ellen Show, Keira said: "Cinderella - banned because she waits around for a rich guy to rescue her - don't. Rescue yourself, obviously.

"This is the one I'm quite annoyed about because I love The Little Mermaid and the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man."

Keira did say that Frozen, Moana and Dory are all favourites in the family house and that she will be keeping to the ban.

She explained about her daughter's dreams for her future, and said that she aspires to be a lion when she's a grown-up.

Keira said: "She wanted to be a dentist, I'm not sure why, she loves Peppa Pig and fell in love with a dentist episode.

"Now she wants to a be a lion, she roars very well! Even if she wanted to be an actress, I'm going to support her in anything she wants to do."

Keira is currently promoting her latest film Colette, and she recently praised her husband, James Righton, for taking charge of childcare to allow her to continue her acting career.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, she said: "He has been amazing. He's been travelling with me since we had her. He's largely put his life on hold to make sure that I'm still at work and that we're keeping together as a family unit.

"I'm super lucky, I can afford child care. I have a wonderful nanny that has travelled with us as well. When she's there, I feel completely safe that Edie is good. And my mum, whenever my husband can't be there, has flown to wherever we are.

"They say it takes a village to raise a child - it takes a village to keep a woman at work as well. But if that's where she should be then everybody is very supportive and it's possible."
