Friends star Matthew Perry is recovering after having to undergo emergency surgery for a gastrointestinal perforation.
The 48-year-old has thanked fans for their concern and asked for privacy while he begins the long road to recovery from the major surgery, People reports.

A spokesperson for the actor said: "Matthew Perry recently underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to repair a gastrointestinal perforation.
"He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals."
The first symptoms of gastrointestinal preforation is often severe abdominal pain and is more commonly known as a ruptured bowel.

The illness can originate from the intestine, stomach or even throat.
Despite being most well-known for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends, Matthew also made a name for himself in CBS series The Odd Couple, which was cancelled after three series in 2017.
He also starred in The Kennedys After Camelot and CBS spin-off Good Wife before also taking to the stage for The End Of Longing on the West End.
